The Chechnya conflict was a war between Russian forces and local separatist. The human toll was immense. Although spanning from 1859, the first major human toll on the Chechens was after WWII when Russia accused them of associating with the Nazis. The punishment for this was mass deportation to Siberia and Central Asia. Another time where there was much human toll was in 1994 after Chechnya declared itself separated from Russia. In response to this, Russia sent in troops and 100,000 people died in the 20 month war. The second Chechen war caused for an estimate of 25,000 civilian casualties and 5,000 disappearances. Continuing on from there, there have been many accusations on Russia of violating human rights in Chechnya for punishment of random allegations on the Chechens. These acts on the Chechens include chemical warfare and other random acts of violence.
